How Goodwill Donations Turn Into Jobs

GREENSBORO, NC-- It is "pay it forward" week on 2WTK, and we are taking the newscast to the Goodwill on North Elm Street.

The Goodwill commercials tell you your donations turn into jobs. But how? It all starts in donation lines with more than 404,572 contributors here in our local area.

The donations are sorted and sold to you and me. 1.3 million customers bought something at a local Goodwill last year.

Your money allows Goodwill to offer free job training. Chris Gorham, the Vice President of Marketing for Goodwill, let us in on the numbers.

Goodwill helped 15, 861 job seekers last year and 2,868 people got jobs due to the services and programs offered through the organization. Goodwill estimates that is $47.3 million in earning potential added in our economy.

Nationally every 13 seconds someone uses Goodwill to help build their career.
