GREENSBORO, N.C. - If you're serious about cutting debt and saving money, it's time to do a no-spending week. The idea of not spending a single dime for a week is terrifying, but we can make it through together.
All week long, 2 Wants To Know's Ben Briscoe will be helping find creative ways to survive no-spending week and sharing those on WFMY News 2 at 11. Starting with the advice of Brittany from the Pennies To Pearls blog and YouTube page. She survived an entire No-Spending month!
"It's not all roses," she said on her YouTube page.
But it's easier when you avoid temptation by staying out of the stores.
PRO TIP: Also put rubber bands around your wallet
Then you need to make a list of all your expenses. You're going to have to keep paying for rent, electricity and some gas to and from work. But say goodbye to luxuries like Netflix!
Also free up your schedule by not committing to any plans that will cost you money. We're going to look at ways to be social for free later this week. But for now, cancel those costly plans.
Mostly importantly, she says to think seriously about why you want to do a spending week. Do you want to go on vacation or save money for a house down payment? Brittany says to make a visual reminder of your goals. Print out pictures of your vacation destination and put them all over the house.
Okay, but what about hanging out with your friends? How do you do that without spending money on coffee or dinner? Look for free events, like at the public library.
Make sure not to miss any of the successes and struggles of No-Spending Week by liking Ben Briscoe's Facebook page. He'll be posting about his experience every step of the way, and he'd love to know your advice and concerns.
