GREENSBORO, NC -- Many of you reading this probably have power right now. But sometime in the middle of the storm you may lose power so what should you do now - and then.
No matter how desperate you might be.. you SHOULD NEVER do anything to jeopardize your safety. In 2002 - when many folks went a week without power - WFMY News 2 interviewed a family who brought their grill inside their home to get some heat. You should NEVER do that! No matter how cold it gets in your house.
Here's what you should do:
- Duke Energy says if your power goes out, check to see if your neighbors have power. If it's just you, it could be a problem with your breakers or fuses.
- Don't assume Duke Energy knows about your outage. Report it immediately. More information is always better.
- Go around the house and turn off lights and as many appliances and electronics as possible. This will help prevent circuit overload when the power is restored.
If Duke Energy is your provider, you can use your smartphone to report an outage, or check on the status of an outage.
