GREENSBORO, N.C. -- An agent with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) confirms they've identified 20 victims in an alleged sex crime case against a former middle school teacher.
Despite more victims coming forward, the bond for Thomas Tilman Cridlebaugh, 71, has been reduced from $5 million to now $2.5 million. That move came out of a hearing Tuesday morning in Davidson County. Investigators said they've reduced Cridlebaugh's bond because he's lived in the Davidson County area his whole life and they don't consider him a flight risk.
Cridlebaugh was arrested Wednesday at his house in High Point for sex crimes allegedly committed in the 1980's against middle school students. He was been charged with crimes against one victim so far in the case.
Scott Williams, SBI Agent saID the male victim attended Ledford Middle School in Davidson County and was barely a teenager when the alleged abuse started. But the sexual offenses continued for a few years. According to Williams, all the alleged victims were boys and the incidents happened on school grounds.
Cridlebaugh was a history teacher, among other things, who also helped in the sports department at the school.
Investigators urge anyone else who believes they were victimized by Cridlebaugh to call a 24-hour hotline: 336-209-5201.
