Deadly Charter Bus Crash

RICHMOND COUNTY, N.C. -- A charter bus carrying a football team crashed Saturday afternoon, killing at least 4 people, according to North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The bus was carrying 46 passengers, all college students, and was traveling Fayetteville to play against the University of God's Chosen Disciples football team, according to UGC coach Demetrius Hollingsworth.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol the 1993 MCI motor coach bus was traveling east on US74 when the front left tire blew, causing the vehicle to travel out of control into the median.

Four occupants died inside the motor coach and 42 were taken transported to various hospitals within the area, according to the NCSHP. Injuries range from critical to minor in nature.

Names of those who died in the crash:

Brian Andre Kirkpatrick, 43, of 685 Charity Road, Chester, S.C.

Devonte Gibson, 21, of Rock Hill, S.C.

Tito Hamilton, 19, of Pahokee, F.L.

Darice Hicks, 10, Rock Hill, S.C.

"The majority of the occupants were from Clinton College based in Rock Hill. It is unclear at this time if Clinton College has an actual football team or if their students participate in an off-campus athletic football team," said the NCSHP.

Mike Hanson with WCNC in Charlotte was told that family members of the players were following the bus and witnessed the crash.

Derrick Crawford of Ramah Juco Academy took to Facebook Saturday morning to promote the "very first College prep football game that will be played in Fayetteville NC today."

According to Ramah Jucco's website, the 'Ramah Rams Athletics' athletic program is, "a new two-year program that's dedicated to giving a second chance to those that have made mistakes academically and those that are looking for a place to leave it on the field."

The Ramah Jucco Program lists Saturday's game as their inaugural game.

The President of University of God's Chosen took to Facebook to express thoughts for RJA's team.
