88-Year-Old Woman Points Rifle At Officers, Workers

BURLINGTON, N.C. – Alamance County Sheriff Deputies arrested an 88-year-old woman after authorities say she threatened utility workers, and pointed a weapon at sheriff deputies.

Sheriff Deputies were called to NC Highway #87 after getting calls an armed woman was threatened to shoot utility workers who were in front of her house. As officers arrived, they found Onilas Lee Simpson holding a weapon, and continuing to threaten the workers. Authorities say Simpson pointed the weapon at one deputy, then another.

Additional deputies arrived and "challenged" Simpson with their duty weapons and ordered her to drop her weapon. She complied and was taken into custody.

Authorities found through their investigation this was not the first time Simpson threatened the utility workers. Deputies say she allegedly verbally threatened the workers last week, saying if they came back they would be shot.

Deputies say Simpson showed no sign of impairment when she was taken into custody and that the weapon she had was a pellet rifle.

Simpson is charged with two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Law Enforcement Officer.

She was processed and released on a $5,000 bond.
