All Lanes of US Hwy 29 Reopen after Tractor-Trailer Fire

REIDSVILLE, N.C. -- An early morning tractor-trailer fire caused lanes closures and a traffic headache for morning commuters on Highway 29 south in Rockingham County.

The traffic delays are now over. All lanes of southbound near McWalker Road are now open, Rockingham County Emergency Management said.

Rockingham County 911 communications confirmed the engine of a tractor-trailer caught fire and spread to the rest of the truck on the highway at approximately 5:00 a.m. Emergency responders closed all lanes going south to fight the fire. The area affected included southbound lanes on Highway 29 near McWalker Road.

The tractor-trailer was carrying tobacco. No other vehicles were involved.
