2 Children In NC Amber Alert Found Safe; Suspect In Custody

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) – The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office reports the suspect in Saturday’s Amber Alert is in custody.

The two kids, 7-year-old Tyzira Donte Jones and 5-year-old Tyana Yevette Jones, are safe.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a family member’s house in the 2100 block of Nathaniel Drive in Greenville around 7 p.m. Friday. They say that’s where Terrance Jones assaulted the mother of the children, Tiffany Allen.

Officials said Jones attempted to drag Allen into a vehicle but she was able to get away. Authorities say Jones then took her phone and left the house with the children. Before leaving, he made a threat that he was going to kill himself and the children.

At some point Saturday, deputies received information Jones had called a relative out of state and reiterated threats of harming himself and the children. Based on this, deputies activated an Amber Alert.

Through the investigation, deputies found a possible location of Jones at the couple’s residence on Concord Drive in Greenville. Greenville’s Emergency Response Team was alerted and assisted the Sheriff’s Office in an effort to extract Jones from the home.

The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office tells us a SWAT team and negotiators were on scene. Jones spoke to authorities via phone from inside the house and continued to make threats about murdering the children.

Jones then mentioned having a knife and authorities broke into the home.

Emergency Response Team officers were able to rescue the children from a second story window while Jones was distracted. Jones was then tased. Lethal force was not used.

Jones now faces charges of attempted kidnapping, domestic assault, and communicating threats.
