Arts Putting Winston-Salem On The International Stage

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Winston-Salem's mayor says the city's reputation for arts put Winston-Salem on the international map.

The Hollywood Reporter recently ranked the School of Drama at UNC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem number five in the country. The school also has a prestigious film school. It landed on the list of the top film schools by The Hollywood Reporter, last year.

Mayor Allen Joines says Winston-Salem's art scene creates international awareness for the city, and help the local economy. Joines says, "the Arts add a huge amount of quality of life from the theater to music, to whatever it might be... the festivals that we have here... it just makes the mosaic of living in a city so much more pleasant."

The Mayor says the National Black Theatre Festival and the River Film Festival also brings in thousands of people to the city. He says the attention in turn helps boost the local economy.
