Belews Lake Drowning Victim Identified

Police: Body Of Missing Boater Found

STOKES COUNTY, N.C. -- Stokes County Emergency Services says the body of a man who presumably drowned at Belews Creek Lake over the Memorial Day holiday has been found more than three months later.

Stokes County officials said in a release, a body was located in Belews Creek Lake around 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Friday, a pathologist confirmed the body found was Bateman's.

Bateman was boating at Belews Creek Lake during the Memorial Day weekend back in May. Rescue crews say Bateman jumped off of his boat to get his hat that blew off. His girlfriend was on the boat and saw him go under and disappear. Officials say he wasn't wearing a life jacket.

The body will be sent to the regional medical examiner's office for an autopsy.
