Charlotte School Bus Crosses Double Yellow Lines, Tailgates Driver

Video shows a CMS bus driver out of control on a busy road in Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- “Somebody could have really gotten hurt this afternoon,” Joe Scarborough said.

Around 3:30 Wednesday, he was taking a drive through Plaza Midwood, when a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools bus drove up closely behind him.

“I noticed a school bus was really close on my rear bumper and really aggressive and tailgating me,” he explained.

After four minutes he decided to pull out his phone.

Video shows the bus tailgating him and then the bus driver crossing a double yellow line to make a dangerous pass.

Seconds later it nearly hits a vehicle driving in the opposite direction head on.

In the video, you can see two cars stop and move over because there was nowhere to go.

“I couldn’t believe that a school bus was crossing a double yellow line in a busy section of town. It could have been tragic,” said Scarborough.

But the close call didn’t faze the school bus driver.

Next, they passed on the right and flew through a yellow light to make a right turn.

Scarborough believes a woman was driving. He can’t be sure if children were on board.

CMS said Thursday that no students were on the bus at the time of the incident; they're continuing to review the video and investigate.
