Community Groups Give Grocery Gift Cards To Power Outage Victims

HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point community agencies and ministries distributed about 735 Food Lion gift cards for people who couldn't afford to replace food lost during recent weather-related power outages.

Lines formed at the distribution centers Thursday morning well before doors opened at 9 a.m. Of the seven participating agencies, most ran out of gift cards within an hour and a half.

Each family received two $25 Food Lion gift cards.

The gift cards were paid for by donations from people, churches and businesses for High Point residents who met the program's qualifications.
