GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Construction on the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts is on hold because negotiations with the contractor on Phase 1 broke down.
City leaders broke ground on the performing arts center in downtown Greensboro late last month before negotiations were finalized with the contractor.
The city announced Friday that negotiations broke down on Phase 1 because of a contract disagreement, according to Public Relations Manager for Greensboro Coliseum Complex Andrew Brown.
So the city will now hire another contractor for Phase 1 of the project.
Phase 1 is to prepare the site.
The city says it will accept bids and construction will start July 5 through October.
The opening of the Performing Arts Center is still set for 2019.
