Decision: Schools Try To Make Up Snow Days, Keep Spring Break

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- Tuesday night Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools (WSFCS) and Guilford County Schools (GCS) plowed through the issue of making up missed days because of winter weather.

Both school systems let parents and students voice opinions on how to make up the time at their respective school board meetings.

GCS administrators' final decision was to stay with the make up calendar that was already in place. This means a loss of Spring Break days. A copy of GCS make up days is on their website.

In Forsyth County, school administrators put forth the option of adding 20 minutes to the end of each school day from April 7 through June 13 to make up for the lost time, due to weather.

After hearing from students and parents, school officials decided against adding 20 minutes to the school day. They will add another day to the end of the school year.

Alamance Burlington Schools said because of the state of emergency declared in their county from the storm, students won't have to make up the days missed which were: Friday, March 7, through Tuesday, March 11. There are other days that students will need to make up from a previous storm, but the dates haven't been decided on.
