CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say a 6-year-old boy who was playing outside was attacked by a dog in northwest Charlotte Saturday evening.
CMPD responded to a call from a residence on Anastasia Court around 4:30 p.m. The boy was attacked by a dog that had broken loose from its collar while it was being walked, CMPD said.
A neighbor shot the dog in order to get the dog to stop attacking the child. The dog was later pronounced dead and was transported to a shelter and will be tested for rabies.
The child was transported to CMC Main for injuries that are believed to be not life-threatening.
Animal Care and Control identified the owner of the dog and said the dog did not have a history of violence.
CMPD said the incident is under investigation and expects to issue citations.
