The moon will be full as it rises in the eastern sky Thursday. Sunset is at 7:16, so go ahead and look to the east around that time, and you'll see the moon coming up above the horizon. It will look big at first, and get a little smaller as it passes overhead. The moon will be visible all night, moving east to west through the night sky.

Harvest Moon is a name given to the full moon that occurs closest to the autumnal equinox, the first day of fall. Sometimes that places it before the equinox, in this case, after. The harvest name owes to the fact that this is often the time of year where farmers collect their harvest in preparation for the colder weather that lies ahead.
