Drugstore Employee Retires After Nearly 80 Years

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Since Charlie Pyles Jr. started working at Asher-McAdams Drug Company in Burlington, he's seen 13 U.S. presidents come into office.

He started as a delivery boy and after serving in World War II, he returned back to the neighborhood pharmacy.

After nearly 80 years, Pyles decided it was finally time to retire.

He told WFMY News 2 his favorite part of the job was the feeling of knowing he helped people in the neighborhood for so many years.

"I loved helping people and I felt like this would be a good way for me to help people. God gave me a good life, I think he gave me a long life. It is bitter sweet and we are happy now and free to sleep until 8 o'clock in the morning instead of getting up at 6!"

Charles was married for 45 years to his late wife Ann and has two daughters.
