Employee Fires Gun Outside Of Charlotte Store

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a scene in Charlotte after shots were fired outside of a business.

This happened around 1 p.m. at the Super Lube near Eastway Drive and Central Avenue.

Officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon call, possibly with an AK-47, inside the store. They did not see any victims.

They arrived to find the business locked and officers were unable to make contact with anyone inside.

The SWAT Team and SWAT negotiators were then called in to assist.

Police finally got a hold of the Super Lube employees, who had left the scene. They responded and unlocked the doors. There was fear this could be a hostage situation, but SWAT made their way inside and did not find anyone in the building. No one was hurt.

CMPD confirms an employee fired a rifle in front of the business. The caliber of the rifle has not been confirmed.

Charges are pending.

Nearby businesses were put on lockdown. Police told employees and patrons to stay inside and keep away from the windows.

Merry Oaks International Academy officials put the school on lockdown because of the police activity, but it was lifted just before 3 p.m
