Forest Oaks Reopening Date Is Uncertain

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- New management is stepping in to run Forest Oaks Country Club, and until further notice, the club is closed.

Wednesday, an employee told WFMY News 2 they would be open Thursday under new management, but late Wednesday night, we uncovered new details that the club would remain closed.

On Thursday, the bankruptcy trustee told us the owners are at the mercy of a court order. Until the legal process is completed, the bankruptcy trustee is in control of the property.

The trustee told us he is working as fast as he can with the owners to get the club open again for members. He hopes to have a timetable for reopening to members by next week.

In the meantime, the trustee is working to get a court agreement to continue course maintenance until a deal is final.

On Wednesday, the doors were open and the new management team was on site. A Forest Oaks employee told WFMY News 2, the club was set to open Thursday. But WFMY News 2's Liz Crawford discovered late Wednesday the country club might not open on Thursday after all.

Kathy Dudich, who operated Isabella's Grill, a restaurant at the club met with the new managers Wednesday about the future of the restaurant. She said the group is called Integrity Golf based out of Florida.

Even though Kathy will no longer operate her restaurant under the new group, as a member, she felt optimistic about the future of the club.

"They're taking the best interest of the community in heart. They appear to be moving pretty quickly," said Dudich.

But later on Wednesday night, Dudich sent WFMY News 2 an email she says was sent by the new management.

It says: "...the Trustee attorney said no one is permitted on property without his consent."

WFMY did some digging on the suspected new managing group. According to National Golf Foundation, Integrity Golf is affiliated with Celebration Golf Management. Their website says they manage 11 facilities including 9 courses in Florida, 1 in South Carolina, and 1 in Tennessee. They have 75 years experience in the golf industry.

The company ES2 Sport and Leisure, that managed Forest Oaks, filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday. The company gave WFMY News 2 an exclusive statement. It said in part: "Although this was a last resort, and we certainly expect for employees and members to be upset and as we told the employees it was with a heavy heart that it came to this, we feel for the employees that did not receive payment this is now a matter in the hands of the courts."

This all started on Tuesday, chains on the main entrance greeted club members. Two signs posted on the doors said Forest Oaks was closed until further notice and cited bankruptcy court.
