Four Ways To Conserve Fuel Amid Gas Shortage

Conserve The Gas In Your Vehicle

GREENSBORO, NC -- Finding gasoline is a tricky chore in the Triad amid the Colonial Pipeline leak.

Mario Greenfield drove to three different stations looking for premium gas for his truck. Finally, he settled for regular.

"Well I’m trying to fill up now so I don’t have to worry about it but who knows how long this is going to take," he said.

That's something many motorists are worried about; will they have enough gas even after they fill up?

WFMY News 2's Maddie Gardner asked David Dew of Honest 1 Auto Care what drivers can do to conserve the fuel they have.

1. Turn off your air conditioning. Dew says enjoy mother nature unless you're on the highway. Then you should roll your windows up to avoid drag that wastes fuel.

2. Accelerate slowly. Don't have a "lead foot."
3. Break as little as possible. "Because every time that you use your breaks you're actually taking power that you've burned away," Dew said. "You're wasting it."
4. Don't let your car idle. If you aren't on the road, turn your car off.
