Washington, DC-- A runway built in 2010 at the Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI)is just now being paid for.
Monday, U.S. Senator Kay Hagan announced that PTI in Greensboro will receive a $4.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration. The money will be usedas a repayment to the federal government fora new runway that was built in 2010.
"This investment will provide a big boost to PTI and the entire Greensboro area," Hagan said. "A new runway will be critical to supporting increased activity that will help grow our economy, and I'm pleased North Carolina will benefit from this funding for many years to come."
The grant will fund construction of runway 5L-23R and associated taxiways; the construction of connector taxiway "F"; the extension of taxiway "K"; and land acquisition, according to a news release from Hagan's PressOffice.
