It's no secret that relationships take work. And it isn't always easy to keep romance going. You know that you have to talk to each other to keep the flame lit. It’s more than “Hey, how was your day?” as your face is glued to your phone.
I’m talking about having a daily 10-minute chat that sparks an emotional connection. You might be thinking, “I tell them that I love them” – yes, and it’s great that you do. It’s not enough. Daily life stress can get in the way of connecting in a meaningful manner.
Let me share 3 emotional connectors to get you started…
1) “Remember the time…” – Let’s you connect to past memories that trigger fun times – so whether it was a shared experience (going to a concert), or a flub (a disastrous recipe) or even - how you met. Past memories bring back laughs, silliness and good feelings.
2) “I’m looking forward to …” Let’s you focus on the future TOGETHER. Whether it’s retirement, a trip to the beach or much needed R & R (rest and relaxation). Focusing on an experience that you’ll share together builds anticipation.
3) “I appreciate…” - Let’s you remember what you love about your partner. The words “I appreciate…” keeps you focused on your partner’s goodness, which many times you overlook or take for granted.
So turn off distractions and put down your phone for 10 minutes once a day. Look into your partner’s eyes and connect with them. Keeping the love alive in your relationship is your responsibility. If you want more love than create more love. It’s up to you.
I’d love to hear what other emotional connectors you’d add to my list. Tweet me your suggestions at Blanca Cobb. Use the hash tag #Blanca On 2. And if you have any relationship questions, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I’m looking forward to getting your emails.
