GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Calling all women! If you need a little inspiration, we have just the thing for you this weekend and it comes in the form of dance!
The 31 Women's Only Workshop returns to the Greensboro Coliseum on Saturday, September 17 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
The workshop is part of the 17Days Festival Greensboro and is sponsored by Lincoln Financial, Ward Black Law and women from the community.
31 is a choreography collective, workshop, and show to uplift, inspire, and empower women.
The workshop features 4 choreographers, 9 dancers and several speakers.
This year's speakers include:
Janet Ward Black, Ward Black Law
Shirley Frye, Community Activist
Tina Firesheets, 1808 Magazine
Maria Gonzales, The Clubs of Greensboro
Kenyatta Johnson, My Sweet Skin
Dr. Victoria Grady Crumpton, M.D., The Bra Doctor
The workshop includes 2 keynote speakers, 4 breakout sessions, lunch and an empowering dance lesson all centered around the text of Proverbs 31:10-31.
Participants will learn a dance to "I'm Every Woman" and dance on stage in the closing number of 31. Participants will also receive a gift bag and t-shirt donated by Premier Building Services.
Princess Johnson, Founding Director of Royal Expressions Contemporary Ballet, joined The Good Morning Show this week to invite women to attend.
"We have a diverse line up of speakers and are looking for women to attend this workshop at no cost thanks to sponsorship from Ward Black Law as well as other prominent community women," said Johnson.
The production follows the workshop at 4 p.m. and will bring back favorites from last year such as "See Line Woman" choreographed by Willie Hinton, "Peacock and the Cranes" by April Schweitzer, and "True Love" by Amma Waddell.
The set also includes three new world premieres: "Generations 5" by Willie Hinton, "Faithful Love" by Amma Waddell, "She Matters" by April Schweitzer.
For tickets, you can visit the Greensboro Coliseum Box Office 11 am - 6 pm Thursday - Saturday or Royal Expressions School of Dance from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday or from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.
