Award-Winning 'Read 2 Succeed' Program Begins

Getting Kids Excited To Read At 'Read 2 Succeed'

GREENSBORO, NC -- For the past five years The Good Morning Show has been spreading the message that reading is fun in elementary schools throughout the Triad. 'Read 2 Succeed' was born after Guilford County Schools challenged students to read three million books and began their "read 30" initiative - to read half an hour each night.

On Thursday Read 2 Succeed began it's fifth season at Jefferson Elementary school in Greensboro.

"Jefferson was a great school out of the gate because of their enthusiasm and was a great way to start the year," Eric Chilton, GMS host, said.

Students packed the gymnasium to sing, dance, have fun and, most of all, get excited about reading.

Thursday morning WFMY News 2's Maddie Gardner visited the school to talk to the principal, media specialist and some of the star pupils. All were excited about the program and ready to read!

Since Read 2 Succeed began in 2012 more than 73,000 students have seen the program.
