As much as romantic relationships can fill you with happiness they can sure fill you with anger, grief and heartache. And when it comes to solving problems if you’re not careful then your emotions can make situations worse.
I have one simple trick that can help you douse the fire when you’re angry so you talk more calmly and resolve problems quicker.
It’s an emotional reset that I call, “Think about whom you’re talking to”. Yes, the tip is exactly what I call it. Before you open your mouth and spew negativity – stop yourself --- close your lips --- and think about whom you’re talking to. Your romantic partner – the love of your life – the most important person to you. Doesn’t this person deserve your respect, love and understanding? The answer is yes so act accordingly.
When you think about what your partner means to you before you start talking then you reset your mind to think of them first. This means that you’ll find different ways to talk about what’s bothering you while your partner feels your love and respect. When you remind yourself that your partner is your world then your brain will find words that address the problem that don’t attack your partner. When you stay focused on the issue at hand then it’s easier to find solutions and keep the love alive.
