Caregiving 101: Dealing with Guilt & Anger

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Scott Silknitter from R.O.S. Therapy Systems stopped by the Good Morning Show to discuss dealing with guilt and anger, as well as how to prevent your loved ones from falling.

STRESS & ANGER

Silknitter said stress and caregiving go hand in hand.  This can lead to a host of problems for the caregiver, including feeling angry at their situation. He said it is completely normal to feel this way, however there are incorrect ways of handling it.

He recommended talking about your feelings with a trusted advisor or friend, instead of holding your feelings in or exploding in an outburst.

FALL PREVENTION

Fall prevention is a top concern for most families caring for someone at home, because falls can happen anytime to anyone. Silknitter said one simple way of preventing a fall is by using night lights.

He said traditional night lights and motion sensor lights are great, but he recommended using an LED light built into an outlet cover from a company called SnapPower. It looks like a regular outlet cover and easily snaps in place like one.  The difference is there are LED lights built into to the bottom of the cover. They cost about $15 each and last for 25 years.
