Caregiving 101: Lower Water Bills

Caregiving 101: Lower Water Bill

GREENSBORO, N.C. --  Scott Silknitter from Caregiving 101 and Tom Garcia from Southern Evergreen teamed up to show caregivers how to keep their water bills low.

They said family caregivers spend between $6,000 and $12,000 on out-of-pocket expenses each year, meaning many people cannot afford big increases in monthly bills.

One key way to keep bills low is by monitoring water usage, especially in your toilet. The two areas to look at are the fill valve and the flapper.  If a leak is happening with either of these parts, they can easily and inexpensively be replaced during as a DIY project.  If caregivers don't feel comfortable making the repairs, they can check with their church or other community organizations to see if they offer handyman volunteer services
