Check, Change & Control Your Blood Pressure

FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. -- Make your health a priority right now.  One of the easiest ways to do that is to monitor your blood pressure.  Healthy blood pressure levels reduces your risk for heart disease, stroke and other illnesses that could eventually lead to death.

That's why Novant Health and the American Heart Association are teaming up for "Check. Change. Control." which is a free health check program for businesses and residents in Forsyth County.

The partnership's goal is to help 5,000 people check, change and control their blood pressure and ultimately live healthier lives.  The focus of the program includes developing positive self-monitoring habits, sharing tools and tips to improve blood pressure, and reducing this risk factor for heart disease and stroke.

To give you some perspective, heart disease is the No. 1 killer of both men and women in the United States and is the 2nd leading killer in Forsyth County.  Stroke is the 5th leading killing in the U.S. and is the 4th leading cause of death in Forsyth County.  Both heart disease and stroke are up to 80% preventable.

Companies and organizations that join the blood pressure initiative can receive:

  • Access to the Check. Change. Control. self-tracking BP system encouraging employees/members to self-monitor their BP two times a month for four months.
  • Non-profit organizations may receive free blood pressure cuffs to make checking BP easy & convenient for your members.
  • Companies and organizations will receive free materials for designated blood pressure stations at your facilities.
  • Personalized BP tools, tips and resources will be provided to you and your employees/members via text or email.
  • A specific code through the tracking system can provide your company with HIPPA compliant blood pressure reports showing how blood pressure is impacting your employees or organizational members and showing changes in reported BP numbers throughout the program’s duration.
  • On-site wellness seminars are available upon request with Novant Health specialists.
  • Local programs are available for those individuals to help manage their high blood pressure, including a partnership with the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina for their Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program for those individuals diagnosed with high blood pressure or are currently taking blood pressure medication. Programs like this include one-on-one coaching on BP management with YMCA staff every two weeks.
  • By promoting healthy self-monitoring and sharing prevention education, you can help to reduce your healthcare costs while improving the health and quality of life for your members and employees.
