Designer Handbag Auction Will Help Kids

MOUNT AIRY, NC -- What lady doesn't love a great handbag? Most of us are guilty of splurging, but how does this sound: New handbag, no guilt?

It's happening next weekend in Mt. Airy.

This year's "Handbags for Hospice" auction, takes place Friday evening, July 18 at Old North State Winery in downtown Mt. Airy.

Proceeds from the auction will go to support the Kids Path program at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.

Celebrities who have contributed handbags (some autographed) include: Elisabeth Moss and Jessica Pare' from "Mad Men"; former Miss America Lee Meriwether from "Barnaby Jones", "Batman" and "The Time Tunnel"; Nancy Stafford of "Matlock" fame; and Surry County's own Anna Wood, who starred in "Deception", and can be seen in the upcoming CBS drama "Reckless."

Kids Path is a program designed to help children who are living with serious, progressive medical conditions. It also provides support for children experiencing grief associated with the illness or death of a loved one.

The auction begins at 6:00 pm, and music starts at 8:00 pm.

Admission to the auction is $10 in advance, or $15 at the door. There will be heavy hors d'oeurves and entertainment.
