GCS Young Geniuses Help Celebrate Young Sheldon Premiere

GCS Students Help Us Celebrate New Show

The Big Bang Theory spin-off Young Sheldon debuts on CBS Monday night, and we invited three local young geniuses to the WFMY News 2 studio to put their fifth grade knowledge to the test.

First, let's tell you about the new show.

Young Sheldon is about the nine-year-old version of Sheldon Cooper, who grows up in east Texas. The writers of the show said they wanted to portray how being a once-in-a-generation genius (capable of advanced mathematics and science) has trouble fitting in with his peers, who are more interested in church and football.

Jim Parsons -- who plays grown-up Sheldon in the Big Bang Theory -- narrates the show.

In celebration of the Young Sheldon premiere, standout Guilford County Schools fifth graders stopped by the News 2 studio Monday. Allyson, Isaac and Sid from the Academy at Lincoln answered fifth-grade level questions with ease and told the Good Morning Show anchors about their career goals. Allyson wants to be a multi-talented Broadway star, Isaac plans to save lives as a brain surgeon, and Sid aspires to create cool new technology as a gaming engineer.

The Good Morning Show has no doubt these intelligent students, like "young Sheldon," will succeed in life!

Watch Young Sheldon Monday, Sept. 25 on WFMY News 2 - CBS - at 8:30 p.m.
