As we talked about earlier, today is Giving Tuesday. After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, today is about giving back.
Your health will be benefit from giving. You increase your own happiness, you’re relaxed, you smile, you feel good. You decrease your stress levels and increase oxytocin, feel good hormone.
Teach your kids about giving by having a chat. Explain what giving means to your family and why you should give. Get your kids involved by having them donate gently used toys, books, clothes. Have them help you bake brownies or cookies for a neighbor. Walk a neighbor’s pet. Emphasize the importance of giving.
With your kids who don't want to give. Be patient. Be the example by living a life of giving. Participate in an adopt a child program. Let your kids see you give. Talk about how you feel when you give. And how other people will benefit from receiving. Let your kids hear you talk about ways you and your family give. When your kids hear about others giving, it makes an impression. When they receive monetary gifts, ask them to donate a part of their gift to a charity. If the receive duplicate gifts, ask them to donate the extra gift to a child in need.
