FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. -- Jennie Hawk is Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools' Teacher of the Year. Hawk is a first grade teacher at Ibraham Elementary School.
She's worked at Ibraham Elementary School for 11 years, including time as a student teacher. She first started as a behavioral support teacher.
Hawk says she chose to become an educator because she believes strongly in Nelson Mandela’s words that “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” She says she didn't want to just be a teacher... but an advocate, attorney, cheerleader, mediator, singer, visionary, and therapist.
Hawk was chosen from among 4,000 teachers in the school system. She now advances to the statewide competition.
