Young Gate City Poets Compete At International Festival

Greensboro, N.C. -- The Gate City Youth Slam Team is sending six talented team members to the 17th Annual Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival in Philadelphia, P.A. in July.

This is the fourth year a team from Greensboro has competed in the festival.

Just weeks ahead of their trip, members of the Gate City Youth Slam Team talked about the competition then treated Good Morning Show viewers to a live performance.

The team, which is made up of Greensboro-area students is under the leadership of Josephus III, a well-known poet and educator.

He points to the incredible experience and outlet poetry gives to the youth.

If you missed the live performance, be sure to watch the taped segment in the video player included in this story.

The team needs your support as they get ready to travel to Philadelphia. To prepare for the competition and raise money for their trip, the team has scheduled multiple performances around the City of Greensboro. Donations will go directly towards travel and lodging expenses.

You can see Gate City Youth Slam Team perform on at the Fun Fourth Festival on Friday, July 4, 2014. For more information on their stage location and schedule of events click here.

The team will also have a booth where you can meet them and leave a donation if you so desire.

There's a second opportunity to support this group's talents and dreams. The Gate City Youth Slam Team is hosting a "send off" event and fundraiser on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Greensboro Cultural Arts Center at 8 p.m.
