Police said they learned of the crime spree after getting a call from a friend of 41 year-old, Menice Montell Smith. The call led them to the assault victim and to the two women who were found dead.

Smith was a contracted truck driver for the US Postal Service and was work acquaintances with Huffines and Brewington who were both employed by the United States Postal Service. Police said they still don't know yet how he knew Goode.

Smith fatally shot himself in Brewington's vehicle after a brief police pursuit on South Elm-Eugene Street shortly before noon Monday.

Investigators said they don't have a motive yet for the crimes. The investigation is still on-going.

The U.S. Postal Service released the following statement: "Our thoughts go out to the affected families. This investigation is being worked jointly with the Greensboro Police Department. Because this is an ongoing investigation, we can make no further comments."
