Greensboro Police Looking For Two Persons Of Interest In Deadly Mall Shooting

Mall Shooting Update

GREENSBORO, N.C. --  Greensboro police identified the victim in Thursday's fatal shooting at the Four Seasons Town Centre as 34-year-old Sherrod Maurice Crum.

At this point police say they're looking for two persons of interest.  Police released security footage Friday morning from inside of the mall of two men running toward Exit D by J.C. Penney's.  They say they believe the shooting happened outside of that exit around the same time.

Police were called to the scene around 2:15 p.m. Thursday after reports of multiple gunshots.  They say Crum was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Greensboro Chief of Police Wayne Scott says they need people to call police or Crimestoppers if they know anything.

"I believe that there's somebody out there that know about everything that we've talked about," Chief Scott says.  "We need ignite that person to give us that information. Sometimes the smallest tidbit of information can lead to unraveling an investigation and allow us to make an arrest or bring closure to a case or comfort to a family and that's very important."

Chief Scott adds this is part of a bigger issue with a rise in violent crime in the city.  He says in the past 30 days, there have been 6 homicides and is calling on the community for help.

"That is alarming to us and I think every citizen that we have that our numbers have increased this much."

He says police are working with other organizations involved in the Safer City Summit to work on ways to improve safety, adding any organization can join at any time.

At this point police have not made any arrests in Thursday's mall shooting.  There was another fatal shooting near the same exit in Februrary.  Police have not made any arrests in that case either.

Police stress that people can reach out to police with information anonymously through Crimestoppers.  That number is (336) - 373-1000.
