Guilford County Animal Shelter Fined Once Again After Latest Inspection

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- The Guilford County Animal Shelter is facing another fine, this time after its most recent inspection in September.

The state issued the shelter a $1,200 fine after six animals failed to have their rabies vaccination within the 15-day window.

The state reported, “violations occurred subsequent to the assessment of a civil penalty on July 26th for non-compliance with this regulation.”

In July, the shelter was fined for an animal that also didn’t have its rabies vaccination.

The shelter also received violations:

  • Failing to provide continuous access to water to 14 dogs on September 21.
  • Failing to separate dogs and cats being treated for communicable disease from other dogs and cats on September 21.
  • Failing to obtain and follow a veterinarian’s written recommendations for correcting a disease problem lasting more than 30 days on September 21.
  • Failing to have current copy of the AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals in the shelter’s euthanasia manual on September 21
  • Failing to have current list of Certified Euthanasia Technicians and training records
  • Failing to have a current euthanasia procedure to use in emergencies, after hours, holidays, and weekends in the shelter’s euthanasia manual on September 21
  • Failing to have MSDS information sheet for Fatal Plus in the shelter’s euthanasia manual on September 21
