High Point Horse Rescue Short on Donations

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Safe Haven Equine Rescue and Retirement (SHERR) said it is in desperate need of donations, as a result of costly medical bills for horses rescued from neglectful situations.

SHERR executive director Gin Wiltsey asks community members to attend a silent auction this Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Deck at River Twist on E Main St. in Jamestown. The event is from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Items for auction include autographed CDs from artists like Jake Owen. There also is an ACC prize package, designer handbags, pottery and a wide variety of other items up for bid.

The organization, based in High Point, works with local law enforcement to rescue and rehabilitate horses who are in neglectful and abusive situations. SHERR depends on continuous donations, in order to feed and provide the necessary medical care for the horses. Wiltsey said taking a horse to the vet for even a few hours can cost thousands of dollars.
