Jury Duty Scheme Making Its Rounds In Guilford County

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. -- The Guilford County Sheriff's Office says they've been made aware of a popular scheme involving a suspect posing as one of their deputies.

Sheriff BJ Barnes said the suspect calls victims and tells them they're with the Guilford County Sheriff's Office and that they've missed jury duty. They also tell them a warrant has been issued for their arrest. The impersonator them tells them if they pay a fine the warrant will go away.

The Guilford County Sheriff's Office says it will never call you regarding payment to them to make a warrant disappear.

If someone has contacted you or if you've paid someone involving this scheme you need to contact the Guilford County Sheriff's Office immediately.

You can also call Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000 or Detective C.L. Overcash at 336-641-2408.
