High School Football Player Charged In Connection With Crash That Killed Girlfriend

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- A high school football player has been charged in connection to a deadly crash that killed a fellow student.

Kalvin McCollum has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, reckless driving and no operators license in the accident that killed his girlfriend, Enjoneah Reel, who was a track star at North Meck High School.

Huntersville Police say two vehicles were traveling on McCoy Road on August 11 around 5 p.m. when one of them crossed the center line, hitting head-on with the other. Reel was the passenger in a car driven by McCollum. Enjoneah was pronounced dead on the scene.

McCollum  was hospitalized after the accident.

McCollum turned himself in to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and was later released on $5,000 bond.
