RANDOLPH, COUNTY N.C. -- A Randolph County man will be honored in Washington D.C. Monday for National Police Week.
The National Association of Police Officers select the top 10 cases of the year, then honor those officers with top cop awards.
Carl Hiott works for the National Park Police in Washington D.C. and assisted in catching the gunman in the Navy Yard.
"They formed what's called an active shooter team and the active shooter teams went into the building to try to locate the shooter, but also to help get the employees to safety," Hiott's mom told us.
Hiott's parents told WFMY News 2 they are extremely proud of their son.
"We're very proud that he's getting this honor and proud of his actions on September 16th and the fact that he probably saved a lot of lives that day," Carin Hiott said
