Local Nonprofit Removes Arrow From Mother Goose's Body

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- A mother goose is recovering from an arrow to her back at Carolina Waterfowl Rescue.

Volunteers with the Indian Trail non-profit responded to calls from Fayetteville residents Wednesday.

The found the 5-year-old female continued to keep watch over her nest of five eggs despite having an arrow through her body.

Volunteers say the arrow pierced the flesh of her wing and damaged part of her tendon, and just narrowly missed her spine. It has been removed.

The goose is unlikely to regain full flight but the wound is still healing. She will return to her mate once her infection clears.
