Majority Of Power Restored In Greensboro After Thousands Of Outages Reported

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Around 3 p.m. Monday over 12,000 people in the area of West Wendover Avenue and Bridiford Parkway were without power.

Duke Energy dispatchers told WFMY News 2 the issue stemmed from a wire down that caused a transmission issue.

Greensboro police officers were on scene assisting with traffic and monitoring stop lights along West Wendover Avenue. Duke Energy told WFMY News 2 they hoped to have all customers'' power restored close to 6 p.m, as of 5:30 only about 5 people remained without power.

Kenny Taylor, manager of the Walmart on West Wendover Avenue told WFMY News 2 their power was out for 3 hours. They had to turn customers away and he said it definitely hurt their business.

Taylor said refrigerated foods, meats, and dairy products in the store were not impacted by the power outage. He said their refrigerators can hold food for up to 5-6 hours.
