HIGH POINT, N.C. -- A man accused of fatally stabbing his wife and daughter had his first appearance in court on Thursday.
Andrew Allen Jr., 48, is facing two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.
In court, Allen was appointed a capital defender. This only happened when the death penalty is on the table.
Court documents show Allen has five assault convictions dating back to the 1980's.
At least two of the convicted assaults were on women including his wife.
According to police, Allen met his estranged wife, pregnant daughter and a family friend outside a high point gas station Tuesday night.
The meeting turned violent. Police say that's when he reportedly stabbed all three.
His wife, Vickie Allen, and their 21-year-old daughter who was pregnant, Andrea Allen, both died at the scene.
Court documents show Andrew Allen was in divorce proceedings with his wife, Vickie. It was to be final in October.
There is a vigil at 8:00 p.m. at the Bizzy Bee Grocery/Gas Station Friday night to honor Vicki and Andrea.
