Man Accused Of Setting Fires To 2 Abandoned Greensboro Homes

Fires Shut Down Roads In Downtown Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Greensboro Police have arrested a man four days after two abandoned homes near downtown went up in flames.

Ricky Joe Whipple is charged with one count of arson, according to the Guilford County Magistrate's Office. He is in the Guilford County Jail tonight.

Police believe Whipple set fire to two homes on Monday night.

Firefighters were called to the fires on North Cedar Street and Guilford Avenue. Assistant Chief Jim Boggs says firefighters rescued two homeless people from the roof of the home on North Cedar Street. They were treated on scene and are okay.

Fortunately, no one was in the home on Guilford Avenue.

As of Thursday night, fire officials have still not released a cause for both of the fires. They say the investigation is still ongoing.
