GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The sheriff's office says deputies arrested a man Thursday afternoon who admitted to bringing a loaded gun to Southern Guilford High School.
Kody Wayne Adkins, 22, is facing two charges: Posession of a Firearm on Education Property and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. Officers jailed him under a $5,000 bond.
The incident happened after someone called 911 to report that a man was coming to campus with a weapon in a red pick-up truck.
Police contacted the school's resource officer, who notified the principal. The school locked down. Officials say this happened after buses left campus, so the majority of the people impacted were staff members and some student-athletes.
Deputies found Adkins driving a truck that matched the 911 caller's description and arrested him after he said he was carrying a .45 caliber firearm.
The Southern Guilford High School principal sent a phone message to parents Thursday afternoon alerting families of the situation.
