Man Charged For Dragging Dog From Car Now Facing Sex Charges

STOKES COUNTY, N.C. – A Sandy Ridge man who was charged with animal cruelty after dragging a dog behind a car is now facing several sexual abuse charges.

The Stoke County Sheriff's Office told WFMY News 2 Jonathan Mason Evans, 19, was brought to Stokes County Jail on July 8th on the following charges:

· Two counts of First Degree Sexual Offense

· Two counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child

· Two counts of Sexual Battery

· Two counts of Assault on a Child Under 12

In September 2013, Evans and Jose Martinez Lopez were charged with animal cruelty after animal control found a dog dead after the two dragged it behind a car. An official said the dog's cause of death was due to strangulation and blunt force trauma.

Jonathan Mason Evans is currently under a $500,000 bond.
