Man Charged In Teacher's Murder Makes First Appearance

NEWTON, N.C. -- Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with Maggie Daniels' homicide on Saturday afternoon. He was arrested Saturday in Winston-Salem.

Newton police said physical evidence obtained during the course of the investigation led to Sharman Odom as the suspect in the murder.

Police said Odom lived in the same apartment complex as Daniels.

Odom made his first court appearance Monday morning in Catawba County. After the quick hearing, Odom's mom attacked Report Steve Ohnesorge who works for CBS Affiliate WBTV. See raw video below.

It was five weeks ago that Daniels went shopping on a Friday morning with a friend at a Walmart where she was seen on a store security camera.

Daniels was a teacher and counselor from Newton.

She was back in her Windsor Apartment complex on West 17th Street by noon.

It is believed she was not seen again until her body was found on the floor of her bedroom the next morning.

The newest evidence in the case was taken by police from another unit in that complex.

Police descended on unit 52 last weekend and stayed for the next nine hours collecting items of potential evidence.

Ryan Cline's mother lives right next door to that unit.

"You don't know who you are living beside nowadays," said Cline.
