Man Killed, 3-Month-Old Rescued After Haw River Crash

HAW RIVER, N.C. -- Troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol say charges are pending after a man died and two people were injured, including a 3-month old in a head-on collision.

Troopers said the crash happened Tuesday before 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of Stone Street and Trollingwood Road.

54-year-old, James Whitaker of Burlington was driving a pick-up truck with mulch when he lost control and crossed the center line, hitting a Toyota Camry according to troopers on scene.

The driver of the Camry, 70-year-old, Anibal Santos of Mebane was killed. Maria Santos, his wife, and his 3-month-old grand-daughter were also in the car with him. Maria was taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The 3-month-old was taken to UNC Hospital and troopers say she is doing fine.

Troopers say charges are pending at this time.
