Mayor Nancy Vaughan Gives Updates On Greensboro

Mayor Vaughan With What's Going On In Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC -- It's time to get an update on the things happening around Greensboro directly from the mayor! Mayor Nancy Vaughan joined Eric Chilton on the Good Morning Show to talk about a variety of topics!

They started with a time sensitive issue facing city council - the budget. The Council must adopt a budget before July first. The City Manager presented a more than $532 million budget to the council. It includes:

  • A water and sewer rate increase
  • Raises for police, fire, and eligible city employees
  • More than $800,000 for non-profit community groups
  • No property tax increase

When asked what people need to know, Mayor Vaughan said  she thinks its a responsible budget. She said there will be a public hearing on the budget at the Tuesday, June 6 council meeting. She said if people have any wants, concerns, desires, or ideas on what should be added or cut out of the budget, they should come out and share their thoughts. She said the input is welcome.

In the past couple days, we heard about Greensboro's Kellogg's facility and Dow Chemicals plants closing, which means the loss of jobs. So we asked her to share some good jobs news. She said Coca-Cola announced plans to stay in Greensboro, retaining their jobs and growing. She also said Simply Southern is a Greensboro based company and they recently opened a 110,000 square foot facility and hired more employees.

Speaking of good news, the city is running a campaign to recognize and reward city employees for their service and the community can help! It's called the "Be Greensboro" campaign. People can send an e-mail or call 336-373-CITY (2489) to commend a city employee for going beyond the call of duty in providing excellent customer service!
