Davie County Teacher Resigns Amid 'Inappropriate' Photos Investigation

'Inappropriate' Pics Found, Teacher Resigns

MOCKSVILLE - A middle school teacher has resigned in Davie County after being accused of sending inappropriate photographs to students through a mobile app designed to be a calculator.

Shannon Wood, a former Physical Education teacher at William Ellis Middle School in Advance, resigned on Aug. 30. The Davie County Sheriff's Department is investigating the case along with Davie County Schools.

The Davie County Sheriff's Office received information on Aug. 26 that a female teacher at William Ellis Middle School had sent inappropriate photos to male students. The Sheriff's Office says the photos have been shared. It isn't known whether charges will be pressed at this time.

Davie County Schools Superintendent Darrin Hartness released the following statement Tuesday afternoon:

The Davie County Sheriff’s Department is investigating allegations that students received inappropriate photographs from a faculty member, and we have been actively cooperating with that investigation.  We accepted the resignation of Shannon Wood, former PE teacher at William Ellis Middle School, on Tuesday, August 30, 2016.  We were notified this morning that during the course of the investigation some students had an app on their technology device disguised as a calculator that was actually a storage file for photographs. We are asking parents to be aware of what is stored on, and to monitor, their child’s technology devices.

Any parents with questions are asked to call Hartness at (336) 751-5921.

We'll have more on this story as it develops.
